Infertility issues are common around the world in both men and women. However, to treat infertility issues (ovulation) in women, doctors usually prescribe taking Clomid tablets. Sometimes this medicine is also used to treat male infertility. It also has an off-label use for treating PCOS.
Clomid tablet has an active ingredient known as Clomiphene which belongs to the class of medications known as ovulatory stimulants. It functions similarly to estrogen which is a female hormone that causes egg production in the ovaries. Thus, it is used to induce ovulation (egg production) in women who do not produce eggs but want to become pregnant.

Medicinal Forms
Dosage and Administration
- The doctor will tell you when to start taking the tablets in your menstrual cycle.
- In the first course of treatment, doctors usually recommend taking one tablet a day for 5 days.
- If you do not have menstruation after the first course of medicine, then the doctor can increase the dose to two tablets a day for 5 days.
- The doctor recommends starting this second course of the medicine at least 30 days after the first course.
- Moreover, it is not recommended to take more than 3 courses of treatment. If the ovulation (egg production) doesn’t happen after 3 courses, then talk to your doctor.
- This medicine is not for the use of children, men, adolescents, or women who have already experienced menopause (post-menopausal).
- Take the medicine same time every day.
- Avoid crushing or chewing the tablet; instead, swallow it whole along with some water.
- If you miss a dose of Clomid Tablet, then take the dose as early as possible. But if it is almost the time of the next dose, then skip the previous one and take the next one. And follow the regular dosing schedule.
- Follow the dosing instructions as advised by your doctor.
Clomid Tablet Side Effects
There are no serious side effects after taking Clomid Tablet. But some of the commonly occurring effects are as follows:

- Allergic to Clomid Tablet
If you’re allergic to Clomid Tablet or any other drug like Clomid Tablet, then do not take it. It can lead to a life-threatening condition called anaphylactic shock.
Anaphylactic shock is a rare but very severe allergic reaction and can lead to death if not treated at the right time. Its signs and symptoms are pale skin, itching, labored breathing, hives, a weak and rapid pulse, runny nose, nausea, excessive salivation, swollen tongue and lips, dizziness, tingling feet, mouth, hands, or scalp, vomiting, sneezing, etc.
It is better to inform your doctor about any allergies you may have.
Drug Interactions
When you take more than two drugs together, they can cause a reaction in the body. Sometimes the reaction is not obvious. But sometimes, it can cause adverse reactions. Therefore, it is better to consult your doctor before taking any other medicines along with Clomid Tablet.
It may interact with the following drugs:
- Abrocitinib
- Bexarotene
- Fluoro estradiol F 18
- Ospemifene
To avoid any drug interactions, it is better to tell your doctor the complete medical history and the medicines that you’re already taking.
Overdose of Clomid Tablet
Some of the symptoms of an overdose of Clomid Tablet are:
- Blurred Vision

- Visual Changes (Flashes or Spots)
- Vomiting
- Hot Flashes
