Nospa Tablet is an antispasmodic and anticholinergic that is used to smooth muscle spasms in the urinary tract, gall bladder, and gastrointestinal tract. It is also used to treat menstrual cramps and abdominal pain.
Nospa Tablet Formula
Nospa Tablet contains Drotaverine HCl which belongs to the class of antispasmodic drugs.
Nospa Tablet 40mg Uses
Nospa tablet has an active compound called drotaverine (an antispasmodic agent). It works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the walls of blood vessels and organs.
Drotaverine inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase-4 (pde-4) and promotes the gathering of the cyclic amp (molecule to regulate the relaxation and contraction of smooth muscles). This all allows the drotaverine to relieve pain and spasms in the urinary tract, gall bladder, and gastrointestinal tract.

Medicinal Forms
Dosage and Administration
- Nospa Tablet tablets come in Nospa 40 mg or 80 mg tablet which should be taken after a meal. It might cause stomach upset if taken empty stomach.
- Doctors recommend taking 3-4 tablets per day depending on the pain being treated. The maximum dosage of the drug should not exceed 240mg per day.
- However, do not give the tablet to children under 1 year of age.
- Consider taking a Nospa tablet after food.
- Avoid crushing or chewing the tablet; instead, swallow it whole along with some water.
- If you miss a dose of Nospa Tablet, then take the dose as early as possible. But if it is almost the time of the next dose, then skip the previous one and take the next one. And follow the regular dosing schedule.
- Follow the dosing instructions as advised by your doctor.

There are no serious side effects after taking Nospa Tablet. But some of the commonly occurring effects are as follows:

- Constipation
