Onset Injection contains Ondansetron which belongs to the class of medicines known as serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists.
Onset Injection Uses
Nausea and vomiting can happen to anyone due to many underlying causes. It can be due to certain medical conditions, some treatments like chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or can simply be due to normal lifestyle changes.
However, to treat severe nausea and vomiting, doctors usually recommend administering onset injection. Onset injection is an antiemetic medication that is mainly used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting caused by various reasons.
It has Ondansetron which is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist and works by blocking a natural substance known as serotonin present in the brain that causes nausea and vomiting. This medication usually starts to show its effectiveness in 30 minutes.

Dosage and Administration
- The frequency, dosage, and duration of the injection depend on the severity of the condition, symptoms, and response to the treatment.
- For adults and children, the doctor recommends the right dosage depending on the condition being treated.
- The injection should only be administered by an expert as a slow injection in the vein or muscles (IV/IM).
- Do not use the injection if the bottle is damaged or has any particles or discoloration in the liquid.
- If you miss a dose of Onset Injection, then take the dose as early as possible. But if it is almost the time of the next dose, then skip the previous one and take the next one. And follow the regular dosing schedule.
- Follow the dosing instructions as advised by your doctor.

- Allergic to Onset Injection
If you’re allergic to Onset Injection or any other drug like Onset Injection, then do not take it. It can lead to a life-threatening condition called anaphylactic shock.
Anaphylactic shock is a rare but very severe allergic reaction and can lead to death if not treated at the right time. Its signs and symptoms are pale skin, itching, labored breathing, hives, a weak and rapid pulse, runny nose, nausea, excessive salivation, swollen tongue and lips, dizziness, tingling feet, mouth, hands, or scalp, vomiting, sneezing, etc.
It is better to inform your doctor about any allergies you may have.
You should not consume alcohol while using Onset medicine.
Onset injection usually causes drowsiness and dizziness which can affect your ability to drive or operate machinery; therefore, do not drive after taking this medication.
Drug Interactions
When you take more than two drugs together, they can cause a reaction in the body. Sometimes the reaction is not obvious. But sometimes, it can cause adverse reactions. Therefore, it is better to consult your doctor before taking any other medicines along with Onset Injection.
It is an antiemetic drug and may interact with the following drugs:
- Amiodarone
- Pimozide
- Dofetilide
- Procainamide
- Quinidine
- Macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin
To avoid any drug interactions, it is better to tell your doctor the complete medical history and the medicines that you’re already taking.
Overdose of Onset Injection
Some of the symptoms of an overdose of Onset Injection are:
- Sudden Blindness (Amaurosis) of 2 to 3 Minutes Duration
- Severe Constipation
- Fainting
- Feeling Light-Headed
In case of an overdose, it is advised to talk to your doctor immediately.
Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool, dry place, and avoid refrigerating it
- Store it at room temperature (20–25°C)
- Keep it away from heat, direct sunlight, and moisture
- Keep it away from children and pets
- Do not use the medicine once it has passed its expiration date
