Zyrtec Syrup contains Cetirizine which belongs to the class of medicines known as antihistamines.
Zyrtec Syrup Uses
Allergies are very common all around the world. Allergy can happen to anyone due to several factors and underlying causes. However, some allergies are worse than others. Therefore, to treat the symptoms of allergies doctors usually prescribe Zyrtec syrup to kids and Zyrtec tablets to adults.
Zyrtec syrup has Cetirizine which is an antihistamine. Cetirizine is a second-generation, anti-allergic, and non-sedating drug.
Histamine is a useful substance; however, in any allergic reaction, it causes uncomfortable signs and symptoms such as watery eyes, itching, runny nose, blocked nose, redness on skin, sneezing, or skin rashes. Dosage and Administration
- For adults and children of 6 years and above, doctors recommend taking 5ml or 10 ml once a day depending on the severity of the symptoms. Do not consume more than 10 ml in 24 hours.
- However, for children (2 years to under 6 years of age), doctors may prescribe 2.5 ml of syrup once a day. If needed, the doctor can increase the dosage to a maximum of 5 ml once a day or 2.5 ml after every 12 hours.
- You can take the tablet or liquid form with or without a meal. But if you face any stomach-related effects, then consider taking it after food.
- Measure the syrup with a measuring spoon, cup, or dropper before consuming.
- Avoid crushing or chewing the tablet; swallow it whole with some water.
- If you miss a dose of Zyrtec Syrup, then take the dose as early as possible. But if it is almost the time of the next dose, then skip the previous one and take the next one. And follow the regular dosing schedule.
- Follow the dosing instructions as advised by your doctor.

If you’re allergic to Zyrtec Syrup or any other drug like Zyrtec Syrup, then do not take it. It can lead to a life-threatening condition called anaphylactic shock.
Anaphylactic shock is a rare but very severe allergic reaction and can lead to death if not treated at the right time. Its signs and symptoms are pale skin, itching, labored breathing, hives, a weak and rapid pulse, runny nose, nausea, excessive salivation, swollen tongue and lips, dizziness, tingling feet, mouth, hands, or scalp, vomiting, sneezing, etc.
It is better to inform your doctor about any allergies you may have.
In most cases, if asthma is allergy-driven, then the doctors recommend taking any anti-allergic medicine. However, sometimes anti-allergic medicines can thicken the bronchial secretions which worsen the asthma. Hence, you should take desloratadine with asthma with great caution.

As Zyrtec syrup can cause sedation; therefore, do not drive or operate any machinery after taking the medicine.
Drug Interactions
When you take more than two drugs together, they can cause a reaction in the body. Sometimes the reaction is not obvious. But sometimes, it can cause adverse reactions. Therefore, it is better to consult your doctor before taking any other medicines along with Zyrtec Syrup.
It is an antihistamine and may interact with the following drugs:
