Lilac Syrup contains Lactulose which belongs to the class of medicine known as Laxatives.
Lilac Syrup Uses
Constipation can happen to anyone due to many underlying causes. It is most common in children, older people, and immobile patients. However, conventional constipation can be treated with Laxatives syrups like Lilac syrup.
Lilac syrup has Lactulose which is an osmotic laxative. It works by breaking down the bowel into substances that pull water out of the body and into the bowel. This softens the stool and makes it easier to excrete out of the body.

Medicinal Forms
Dosage and Administration
- Doctors recommend taking 15-30ml orally single dose or in 2 divided doses depending on the infection being treated for adults.
- However, for children (5-10 years), doctors may prescribe 10 ml of oral solution or syrup twice a day. Giving children juice after medicine is preferred because the oral solution tastes bitter.
- For children ≤1-5 years, doctors recommend giving 5ml of syrup twice a day.
- You can take the liquid form should be taken after a meal. If you face any stomach-related effects, then consider taking it after food. Moreover, it is better to take a dose in the morning after breakfast and another in the evening after a meal.
- Measure the syrup with a measuring spoon, cup, or dropper.
- If you miss a dose of Lilac Syrup, then take the dose as early as possible. But if it is almost the time of the next dose, then skip the previous one and take the next one. And follow the regular dosing schedule.
- Follow the dosing instructions as advised by your doctor.

There are no serious side effects after taking Lilac Syrup. But some of the commonly occurring effects are as follows:

Anaphylactic shock is a rare but very severe allergic reaction and can lead to death if not treated at the right time. Its signs and symptoms are pale skin, itching, labored breathing, hives, a weak and rapid pulse, runny nose, nausea, excessive salivation, swollen tongue and lips, dizziness, tingling feet, mouth, hands, or scalp, vomiting, sneezing, etc.
It is better to inform your doctor about any allergies you may have.
If you have lactose intolerance or Roemheld Syndrome, then you should consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Patients with galactosemia (rare genetic disease), disorders associated with the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal obstruction (blocked bowel/intestine), or undiagnosed abdominal pain should not use this medicine without consulting a doctor.
Drug Interactions
When you take more than two drugs together, they can cause a reaction in the body. Sometimes the reaction is not obvious. But sometimes, it can cause adverse reactions. Therefore, it is better to consult your doctor before taking any other medicines along with Lilac Syrup.
It is a laxative and may interact with the following:
- Antacids
- Levomenthol
- Droperidol
- Licorice
To avoid any drug interactions, it is better to tell your doctor the complete medical history and the medicines that you’re already taking.
Overdose of Lilac Syrup
